Parenting Styles, Family Relation And Self-Esteem Among

The objectives of this study were to examine the level of self-esteem among adolescents studying in Mathayomsuksa 1,2 and 3 in the secondary schools under the Department of General Education, Aranyaprathet District, Sakaeo Province, and to identify the relationship between parenting styles, family relation, student's sex, student's age, birth order, grade point average (GPA), number of siblings and acceptance by peer and self-esteem. The sample consisted of 192 students. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaire in February 1998. Statistics used for data analysis were Chi-square test and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results revealed that half of adolescents had high self-esteem and the other half had low self-esteem. Parental styles, family relation, student's age and acceptance by peer were significantly associated with self-esteem at p-value < 0.05.
